Principalities and False Gods

The bible says there are dark spiritual forces at work behind the scenes and even implies these spirits are what the various polytheist cultures around the world worship as gods. In the book of Titus, Paul quotes Epimenides describing Cretans as untrustworthy and corrupt, and if we look closely we may see the spiritual source of their behavior.

The False Gospel Starts With Bad News

Jesus said to preach the gospel to everyone (Matt 18:18-20). The word Gospel comes from the Greek Euangelion (εὐαγγέλιον) or Evangelium in Latin, which in Old English becomes “gōdspel” (gōd “good” + spel “news”), all of which means good news. Jesus is the Messiah (the Christ) which means “anointed one” and the good news is about him saving us. However, the Bible says there will be an Antichrist or false Messiah and this false Messiah will have his own false gospel.

Is Easter a Pagan Holiday?

While rabbits and eggs have nothing to do with Jesus, the word “Easter” is actually based on the ancient German word for “rise” so it is synonymous with resurrection. This is the reason we call the direction the sun rises in, “east” in English. English is a Germanic language, not a Latin one so it uses a different word for Easter from Latin languages like Spanish, French, etc. Latin languages use a variation of Pascha, the Latin/Greek translation of Pesach. Pesach is the Hebrew word for Passover a.k.a “The Festival of Unleavened Bread”. Some say Easter is a pagan holiday because it is related to the Babylonian fertility goddess Ishtar. The Ishtar connection with Easter is a false cognate. Those language groups aren’t even in the same family, since the word Easter is from English and German.

Angel Worship and False Angels

In the new testament, we are warned about false human teachers, but there are also deceiving spirits to avoid. Jesus warns us about false prophets and false messiahs in Matt 24:24 and Mark 13:22. Colossians 2:8-10 says to reject corrupt theology based on the philosophies of worldly spiritual teachings. 1 John 4:1-4 says to test the spirits and ignore the ones that steer people away from what Jesus and his apostles taught. Gal 1:8 warns about false gospel preached by anyone including fallen angels. 2 Cor 11:13-15 says that false teachers pretending to be godly is like how Satan pretends to be an angel of light. Also, Col 2:18 says angels shouldn’t be worshiped or prayed to.
