Arab Christians [God vs Allah]

Is Allah in the Quran the same God as YHWH in the Bible? God in the Bible is not the same character or personality as God in the Quran, and there are significant theological contradictions between them. However, Arab Christians call God Allah, not because they believe Islam has the same God theologically, but because Allah means the (one) God in Arabic. The Arabic-descended Maltese language of Malta, whose population is almost entirely Roman Catholic, uses Alla for “God”. The Aramaic word for “God” in the language of Assyrian Christians is Elaha, or Alaha. A German speaker wouldn’t say ‘God’ either; they would say ‘Gott,’ which is where the English word ‘God’ originates, as English is a Germanic language. Nor would a Spanish speaker say ‘God,’ they would say ‘Dios’ because that is the word for God in Spanish. They are merely the words used to classify a deity, similar to how words like El-Shaddai or Adonai (meaning “the Lord”) in Hebrew function as titles for God, or God Almighty. However, these are not necessarily the name of God, such as YHWH. Likewise, the New Testament is translated from Greek, which uses the word Theos (Θεός) for God. Paul didn’t make Greeks stop saying Theos and switch to Adonia, so I don’t believe Arab Christians must use something other than Allah.

Unicorns in the Bible

Does the Bible suggest unicorns exist? According to the KJV translation of the Bible, there are unicorns (Numbers 23:22, Numbers 24:8, Deuteronomy 33:17, Job 39:9-10, Psalm 22:21, Psalm 29:6, Psalm 92:10, Isaiah 34:7). If the Bible is true, then why does it mention mythical creatures like unicorns?

The Word Hell – Etymology

Advertisements

Does the Bible say we all go to a permanent afterlife when we die? No, when we die, there is a paradise or hell where we wait for the two sets of resurrections of the dead. The righteous go to paradise awaiting the 1st resurrection/rapture when they get new heavenly bodies (1 Cor 15:12-58, 1 Thess 4:13-18, Heb 11:32-35, Rev 20:4-6). Meanwhile, the unsaved await the 2nd resurrection in Hell, leading to the second death in the Lake of Fire (Rev 20:4-6, Rev 20:11-15). Hell, also known as Hades, or Sheol is a temporary holding place of the unsaved until the 2nd resurrection [of the wicked] (Rev 20:4-6, Rev 20:11-15). Then the wicked are condemned to the Lake of Fire, along with Satan, joining the Anti-Christ and False Prophet who were thrown in beforehand. Revelations 19:20, 20:10-15, and 21:8 explain the Lake of Fire and say that hell itself is also thrown into the Lake of Fire on judgment day, meaning Hell and the Lake of Fire are two separate locations and only one is a permanent stay.

Jesus’ Name Etymology

Advertisements

Some people debate whether to refer to the Messiah as Jesus or Yeshua (or Yahshua). Anyone who says you can’t call him anything other than Yeshua/Yahshua says he doesn’t respond to prayers from people who call him different names from other languages. I’m pretty confident that when Greek believers in the 1st Century prayed in the name Iēsous (“Jesus”), they achieved the same results that Hebrew- and Aramaic-speaking Jews achieved with Yeshua (יֵשׁוּעַ). Otherwise, the Bible would have said you can only say Yeshua.
